30/70 system & six fields
Updated May 29, 2026
The Jordanian Tawjihi system uses a specific weighting and field structure to determine university eligibility. Here is a simple breakdown.
The 30/70 Weighting (Grade 11 & 12)
Starting with the 2008 generation (graduating in 2026), your final Tawjihi mark is calculated across two years:
- 30%: Based on common subjects taken in Grade 11 (Arabic, English, Islamic Studies, and Jordan History).
- 70%: Based on specialized subjects taken in Grade 12.
This weighting reduces the pressure of a single exam season by allowing you to build a strong foundation in your first year of secondary school. Use our GPA Calculator to see how your marks from both years combine.
The Six Academic Fields
Students choose their field (branch) at the end of Grade 10, which determines their subject catalog and university options:
- Scientific (العلمي): Focuses on Math, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
- Literary (الأدبي): Focuses on Arabic, English, History, and Geography.
- Sharia (الشرعي): Focuses on Islamic studies and Arabic.
- Industrial (الصناعي): Vocational track for engineering and technical roles.
- Agricultural (الزراعي): Vocational track for biological and earth sciences.
- Hotel & Tourism (الفندقي والسياحي): Vocational track for hospitality management.
