This course introduces the acquired knowledge, skills and attitudes related to socio-psychological aspects of health, illness and medical practice. Topics covered are psychological and social factors in health promotion and illness prevention, psychological interventions to change behaviour, modify risk, and improve outcomes, psychological processes in disease, social factors and behavioural contributors to disease, psychological management of pain, mental health and mental illness, emotional, cognitive and behavioural responses to illness, adherence behaviours, mood change in chronic illness, illness cognitions, hyper-vigilance, attribution theories, self-concept and self-esteem, co-morbidity, cognitive dissonance, aggression, coping with illness and main aspects of psychology and sociology across the life span. Experienced people are invited to give lectures or a variety of interactive activities.
